The Vampire Diaries, which was first aired in 2009, has been one of the CW network's flagship shows. The show was based on a bestselling book series written by L. J. Smith.

The series was set in the fictional town of Mystic Falls, which had a supernatural and mystical aura. The show narrated the life of teenage girl Elena Gilbert and her romantic triangle with completely dissimilar brothers Stefan and Damon Salvatore - the vampires who have been wandering the earth for several centuries.

The Originals, which was a successful spin-off of The Vampire Diaries, began airing in 2013, even before The Vampire Diaries was over. The story was about the Mikaelson siblings – the original vampires who appeared thanks to the strongest witch's magic. Over their millennia of existence, they have acquired many allies, but dozens more enemies.

Throughout both of the series, the Salvatores and the Mikaelsons quarrelled, but when any of them was in danger, they were ready to forget everything and become a shoulder to shoulder to each other. This is what love for a family means.
