Controversy abounds in the Doctor Who fandomand while this is a good thing (for it means we care a great deal about the show), it shall not abound here; for this is "11 Reasons to Love the 11th Doctor"not "11 Reasons the 11th Doctor is Better Than Other Doctors" or "11 Lousy Things About the 11th Doctor." Within this article you shall find only positive vibes; from a fan to fans: a non-exhaustive list of things we all (should) love about the 11th Doctor. As we all know, time is not as linear as we might believe, so the following points will not come in any specific order. Without any further ado
4. "Bowties Are Cool"
Perhaps this statement is overusedindeed, overused enough to inspire hipsters to believe that they brought the bowtie back into style (silly hipsters)but it is not so much the statement but the delivery that makes this one of the things to love about the 11th Doctor. Bear with me as I explain. The Doctor knows, deep inside, that bowties are not cool in that first episode. He knows it. They're a silly, ridiculous necktie from a bygone era now only appropriate as a part of a black tuxedo, but he puts one on and owns it. His statement, "Bowties are cool," is delivered with a strange sort of confident tongue-in-cheek that makes him cool for saying it. He seizes upon the silliness of his wardrobe choice and, through self-awareness and confidence, makes it cool. I remember falling in love with the 11th Doctor in that moment outside the TARDIS, thinking, "I say things are cool in the same way!" He has carried this same sort of confidence and facetiousness into many other aspects of his life (a notable example being his interactions with his Ganger self in "The Almost People" and "The Rebel Flesh"), and it became an essential and wonderful part of his character.
