Doctor Who: 20 Things You Didn't Know About The Day Of The Doctor

8. Malcolm Taylor Returns!

Doctor Who fans will surely remember Lee Evans' enigmatic UNIT scientist Malcolm Taylor.

He was absolutely obsessed with the Doctor, and, like Osgood, acted how most Whovians would if they came face-to-face with the Doctor in real life.

2009 Easter special Planet of the Dead was the first and only appearance of Malcolm on our screens, but if you were paying close attention, you might have noticed that he actually made a return (of sorts) in The Day of the Doctor.

Twice during the episode, Kate Stewart makes reference to a Malcolm working at UNIT. Firstly, she remarks that he needs to change the batteries in the ravens at the Tower of London, and later, she phones him to send her some old UNIT files codenamed Cromer - a reference to another multi-Doctor story, The Three Doctors.

References within references! Moff at his Moffiest.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
