Doctor Who: 20 Things You Didn't Know About The Day Of The Doctor

2. The Brigadier Almost Had A Cameo

Kate Stewart first appeared in the Series 7 episode The Power of Three, where it was revealed that she was the daughter of the Doctor's old friend Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart.

Nicholas Courtney sadly passed away in 2011, two years before the 50th anniversary year. And so the inclusion of Kate seemed like the perfect way to pay homage to the Brigadier's Doctor Who legacy.

However, things were nearly very different, and Steven Moffat was first considering adding some audio clips of the Brigadier to the episode, to give him a proper cameo. But in the end, this was decided against.

Despite his absence in the onscreen version of The Day of the Doctor, the Brigadier was present in the novelisation. There are several passages which explore conversations between him and The Curator - and we all know who he was meant to be!

Sometimes you hear my voice, sometimes you see my face and sometimes you read my words! But I’m usually away with the faeries and timelords! ?‍♀️

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
