The Second Doctor was even more impish than his predecessor, but he also had a dark and manipulative side.

This is the Doctor who experimented on his companion Jamie McCrimmon, in an admittedly well-intentioned attempt to defeat the Daleks once and for all.

Not only did Patrick Troughton face the Daleks many times, but also the Cybermen – more so than any of his successors in fact, clocking up four stories across his three years in the role.

Other notable highlights of the Second Doctor era are the introduction of the Ice Warriors and the first encounter with the Time Lords, the latter of which changed Doctor Who lore forever.

It was the Time Lords who punished the Second Doctor for his frequent space-time meddling, by forcibly regenerating him and stranding him on Earth.
