Doctor Who Series 9: 22 Easter Eggs You Need To See

16. Jane Austen

Doctor Who has never shied away from referencing real-life historical figures, and one who has popped-up a few times in the past couple of series is Jane Austen. The author has never actually appeared on the show, but there have been a couple of intriguing mentions. The first came last year, when Clara is teaching Pride and Prejudice, with the Doctor correcting her on the date the novel was written, leading her to believe he had actually met her. This year, The Magician's Apprentice sees her make the surprising claim that Austen was a "great kisser" while in Face The Raven she says that they used to play pranks on each other. One day we may get Austen in Doctor Who, but it's a damn shame we aren't going to see her and Clara together on-screen.
