Doctor Who: Will Twelve Cause Too Much Conspiracy In The Who Fandom?
I want to preface this article with the fact that I am a huge fan of Steven Moffat. I understand people dislike him -- everything from the fact that he's "ruining Who", to making the show too much about him and less about Classic, to making character's sexist I've never believed any of what was said about him. I have always thought the man was clearly a genius and knew what he was doing. He's the showrunner of my two favorite shows Sherlock and Doctor Who. In short, I have a great respect for Steven Moffat. However, I feel like he's been running out of ideas, and my case in point is Clara's storyline and Twelve's to-be storyline. Now before you get on me, I know that we don't know The Doctor's storyline, and it could be completely different. I also know that Russell T. Davies had something going on as well I know all of this. Come on guys, it's me, do you think I haven't researched this? I know all about the apparent plan Moffat has and that RTD had as well. But it could not have come at a worse time. I know that Moffat would never recreate a storyline right after he just finished one. He's smart he knows what he can get away with. But here's my issue with these two plot lines. While the two may have nothing to do with each other Clara being born to save the Doctor and the mystery of Twelfth Doctor my issue is not whether or not the story lines are the same in the end, its that the story lines are the same leading up to what we find out about Twelve. The idea of the Doctor crossing himself in the time stream before he even knew he was the Doctor is an astounding idea but its going to be clouded by the fact that we have to figure out how and why. And right after dealing with the theories with Clara, the idea Moffat and Davies have may be outshined by the fact that people just want episodes that we arent looking for clues every episode, and over analyzing every episode. We spent the majority of season seven trying to figure out the mystery of Clara. There were theories about everything. The only time Ive seen as many theories were when people were trying to figure out how Sherlock died. Maybe Moffat liked how hyped up the audience got, and wanted to do it again. But Im worried that its just too close to Claras mystery that people will feel its gimmicky. Maybe this is something that only the fans do maybe Moffat has ten story ideas to do before we try to figure out about Twelve. Maybe we wont know until Twelve is about to regenerate how he came across Ten and in Torchwood without realizing it. But that wont stop the theories and the overanalyzing of each scene trying to figure out if that cup is there for a reason. However the insinuation that there is yet another huge conspiracy about the Doctor right after we just had a season of conspiracies, its just a bit tiresome as a fan! Maybe thats just the fun of a series with Steven Moffat. I dont mind, in my opinion you cant get writing like his in America anyway. Im willing to go on with what Moffat has planned, but I worry that fans will get tired of big story arcs, and/or that what could have been amazing will be overlooked because we just spent that time obsessing about Clara. What do you guys think? Is it too soon to have another conspiracy? Is this even Moffat or is it the fans?
