Emmys 2022: 5 Ups & 7 Downs

4. Kenan Thompson's Solid Hosting Job

Emmys 2022 Kenan

Though the overall Emmy show was rather tepid from a writing and production standpoint, Kenan Thompson certainly did his level-best to try and convince otherwise.

An inspired, left-field choice to host the show instead of more typical TV royalty picks, Thompson brought a casual irreverence to the job and did about as well as anyone could be expected to with relatively middling material.

He enthusiastically sauntered his way through that uneven opening dance sequence, and tried hard to make tired jokes about Netflix land with pithy aplomb.

He brought a composure to the show while shepherding it along nicely enough, and created the true viral moment of the night when he briefly reunited with Kenan and Kel co-star Kel Mitchell at the Emmy bar.

All in all it's easy to feel like Kenan deserved a better show to work with, but he certainly rose to the occasion regardless. If we see him hosting other awards shows in the near-future, it'd be no bad thing.
