There are multiple words we could use to describe Adam West's Batman TV series, but 'classic' seems the most appropriate.
The unapologetically campy series is certainly a product of its time, but it has become a piece of pop-culture history that is impossible not to appreciate - and not just for the nostalgia.
With outlandish plots and hilarious costumes, Batman may not have the gritty and compelling narratives of modern day counterparts; but what it does have is a ridiculously witty writing team who knew exactly how to get your attention in this lampoon of a TV series. And that might just make it the most clever - and timeless - adaptation of them all.
Who knows where the genre would be without this pivotal piece of history.
