Every Death In The Simpsons Ranked

14. Red Barclay (Maximum Homerdrive)

In Season 10's "Maximum Homerdrive", Homer and Bart discover that all truckers have been secretly using self-driving vehicles to avoid doing any work. If that plot doesn't excite you then don't worry, it didn't excite many people at the time either. But how did the Simpson men get themselves into such a wacky scrape? Because somebody died of "beef poisoning" of course!

Before his adventures in haulage begin, Homer challenges a trucker named Red Barclay to a steak-eating contest at a new restaurant. Homer is defeated, but it is he who has the last laugh as Red stuffs his face so much that he passes away then and there. Homer decides to make amends to his recently-deceased friend by completing his final delivery.

Again, this is a death that is mainly used as a joke. The idea of dying of "beef poisoning" is laughable and the fact that Red's character boiled down to "eats steaks and drives trucks" makes it hard to get attached to him in his short time on-screen. Still, he kicked this episode's plot off, which counts for something at least. It's just a shame that plot was mostly awful.
