5. Once Removed - The Truth About The Assassination

Inside No 9
BBC

Plot: A story of assassinations is told in reverse chronological order.

This Inside No. 9 classic finishes at the 'beginning' of the story, but somehow manages to have a great climax, which solidified it as one of the best episodes in the show's history.

Throughout the episode, we'd witnessed a hitman (Shearsmith) murder a number of people without knowing exactly why; it's revealed towards the end that he's been hired to kill a man's wife so that he can run off with his lover.

Except... the wife had caught on and has changed the house number outside from a 6 to a 9, sending the assassin after her husband's lover instead.

It's a brilliantly done ending that wraps the story up in a neatly satisfying and fiendishly entertaining manner, and it's just as brutal and blackly hilarious as all the best Inside No. 9 finales are.
