Every Marvel Comic Book TV Show Ranked From Worst To Best

1. Jessica Jones

Although we've only had one season of Jessica Jones so far (the second has just entered into production though), it's still enough to earn it the top spot.

Coming after Daredevil, Jessica Jones was the series that proved this Netflix Marvel Universe really did mean business, and the previous effort was no fluke (though it's slightly shakier now). It took everything that was great and surprising about Daredevil, its darkness and adult-themes, deeply troubled protagonist, real world issues, and perfected the model, while also managing to deliver a story we hadn't seen before.

Not only is Jessica Jones a superhero series, albeit one that draws from a relatively minor character, but it also manages to be something much more than yet. Yes, the character does have superpowers and the action, while not quite the level of Daredevil (but then it's not as action-centric a show), is impressive, but it's when it goes beyond that it truly excels.

The series tackles issues around PTSD and alcoholism, all within the context of a protagonist who is a rape survivor, and it takes on the notions of consent and violation with incredible maturity and deftness of touch. With Krysten Ritter in the starring role, Jones is angry, she's strong, she's funny, but there's also a vulnerability and fear within her as well, something the series charts her overcoming up to its deeply satisfying final moments.

She's aided in this by a strong supporting cast, not least another top villain in David Tennant's Kilgrave, who manages to be malevolently charming and believable, becoming a truly frightening proposition. It does suffer from some of the same pacing issues that plague all the Netflix Marvel shows, and the subject matter can make it tough to watch, but they're ultimately rather minor quibbles.

There are as many shades of Buffy (and indeed Angel) in the series, which combines superheroes with a detective noir, as there are Marvel comics, and the result is a show that's dark, intense, funny, sexy, important, captivating, and the best we've seen yet from Marvel.
