Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. generated a lot of buzz back in 2013, as it was the first Marvel Cinematic Universe TV show, and had the name Joss Whedon very much behind it.

It's never managed to live up to those expectations, especially with Whedon not too heavily involved, but after a rocky start (the first half of Season 1 is pretty bad) the show massively improved by tying in with Civil War, and has turned into a solidly entertaining series since.

It's a shame that the movie connection only seems to work one-way, and indeed this world often feels like an after-thought. It can get bogged down in feeling too much like a generic procedural, especially with 22 episode seasons, so there's some filler in every season, and it's not 'essential' viewing in the way other Marvel series are.

But it's brought Inhumans to our screens, took us to alien planets, and made Ghost Rider cool again. It's also gotten darker in Season 4, but manages to retain the charm and charisma of its main characters as well.
