Every Rowan Atkinson Film & TV Project Ranked From Worst To Best

9. Four Weddings And A Funeral

Blackadder Series 2
ITV

Whilst a little dated upon viewing today, it cannot be overstated what a big deal this film was in the mid-'90s.

The film unexpectedly taking off in a huge way across the Atlantic resulted in it being the highest grossing British picture ever at the time, and can be considered the main culprit in launching the international career of Hugh Grant, who would lead an astounding amount of somewhat identikit films for the next 15 years or so.

Atkinson would have a supporting but integral role as Father Gerald, a gaffe prone priest overseeing proceedings at the titular church events. He would later remark that the aspect of this character being over confident in his abilities despite being so obviously incompetent was one of a number of inspirations behind the character of Johnny English.

The film would receive a plethora of awards, including a Golden Globe for Grant as best actor, as well as a BAFTA for Best Film. Despite a couple of nominations, an Oscar would elude the release, losing out to Pulp Fiction and Forrest Gump in a very competitive year.
