It's safe to say that the Mother's Rosario arc is easily the hardest-hitting segment of the show, and it worked hard to try and rectify some of the mistakes of the past.

Unlike other arcs, this one places Asuna Yuuki in the role of the protagonist, and while it doesn't make up for the show's poor treatment of one of their best characters, it still gives her a fantastic chance to shine.

Mother's Rosario focuses on Asuna's involvement with the Sleeping Knights guild as she befriends their leader Yuuki and forms a bond with them. However, a dark and tragic secret causes a rift between them, leading to one of the show's most emotional character arcs.

You get so much this season as the straightforward narrative allows for a quieter and more intimate story. Learning about Asuna's home life and her connection to her mother was a smart way to make her feel more three-dimensional. Plus, the character of Yuuki also manages to charm you before breaking your heart entirely.

This arc did something genuinely sentimental and dignified, which is what helps it to rank so high.
