Falcon And Winter Soldier Episode 5 - La Contessa Explained

Who Else Could La Contessa Recruit?

So, if we are to go deep, deep into bonkers speculative territory (which we should, because that's a fun thing), it might be worth considering who else La Contessa may be looking to recruit. If this is the beginnings of Marvel's Thunderbolts (which, again, not saying it is), then it would make sense to start with Zemo.

Daniel Bruhl's character has continued to be one of the MCU's most charismatic and compelling supervillains, and the decision to have him be incarcerated at the Raft in the most recent episode of Falcon and Winter Soldier would seemingly indicate Marvel aren't done with the character. The series has already redefined Zemo in terms of him being a wealthy and resourceful individual, and you can already imagine the onscreen tension there would be were forced to fight alongside a super soldier in John Walker.

Thaddeus Ross

Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross is another name to consider, although not for any kind of field work in particular. The former Hulk obsessive turned Secretary of State made clear his distrust for superheroes during the events of Captain America: Civil War, but there's no indication he's still not the power hungry individual he was in both The Incredible Hulk movie and in the comics. Further still, Ross is another character who's had a history with the Thunderbolts, even becoming Red Hulk and serving in the field as the team's heavy hitter.

Other candidates to consider include Taskmaster, whose fate coming out of Black Widow we're still waiting on; Erin Kellyman's Karli Morgenthau; Abomination and potentially even Ghost, from Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Again, it is admittedly way too early to start thinking about the Thunderbolts, but when a shadowy figure from Marvel Comics moves to recruit an unstable Captain America for their own gain, it's natural to wonder what Marvel may have in store.
