The early Stewie and Brian 'specials' - often billed as Family Guy Presents - were fantastic Stewie episodes (or Stewie and Brian episodes if you prefer) that actually had a special event feel to them. Road To Road Island back in the show's second season was the first of them, conceived by series creator Seth Macfarlane as an homage to the 1940s Road To... movie series starring the likes of Bing Crosby and Bob Hope. In the episode, Brian volunteers to bring Stewie home from his grandparent's place, but they're soon lost along the way, and the antics turn into something of a buddy comedy. Be it Planes, Trains, And Automobiles or even Ed O'Neill's Dutch, it has been done before, but Family Guy did it particularly well in this instance. Stealing a car and plane, hitch-hiking, and winding up on the farm where Brian was born, the duo's antics in the episode are some of the series' best, and Stewie is both hilarious and touching at times in a way that doesn't feel forced.
