Family Guy's Chicken Fight Gets A Live Action Remake
In the past I've criticised Family Guy's large scale fight sequences between Peter Griffin and Ernie the Giant Chicken as being nothing but filler. But, despite them being extended non-sequiturs, you can't fail to admire how epic they are, literally crossing time and space, and featuring some incredibly inventive scenarios and excellent animation. And now what you'd probably think was nigh-on impossible (or at least exceptionally difficult to do well) has become a reality: a live action recreation of the first Chicken Fight from Season 2 Episode 3 'Da Boom' that saw Peter's rivalry with Ernie start after Ernie gave him an expired coupon. Funded through Indiegogo and made on a budget of just under $3,000, Chick Fight sees a gender reversal of Peter and Ernie with the roles of Petra and Ernesta being filled by martial arts experts and professional stunt performers Tree O'Toole and Jessie Graff in a pretty faithful adaptation of the original sequence extended to just over four minutes long. You can watch both versions of the fight below: It's not an exact recreation since some setpieces from the original like the one involving the helicopter and the boat are simply impossible to create without a much larger budget, but for $3,000 and such an over the top cartoon sequence as it source material, this is very impressive. And the more original scenes such as the extended fight scene in the office building and the 300 parody in that scene work very well. They also help to give it a more creative flair and element of originality rather than it just being a shot-for-shot remake of the original Chick Fight's success is down to a large number of incredibly talented film professionals giving up their time and money to make the film purely for the sake of wanting to create something good. A lot of passion and creativity has gone into this video and it looks absolutely incredible as a result. An excellent piece of work and another success for crowdfunded projects.
