Father Ted: 12 Funniest Episodes

11. Hell

When Ted and Dougal decide to take their annual caravan holiday, they are excited to be greeted on arrival by a state-of-the-art camper van. On entering it (apparently none of them have locks) they find they are intruding on a couple getting quite frisky in the shower. The vision of a priest being questioned for breaking and entering, not to mention the hinted voyeurism, is one that can only make you chuckle. As if this wasn't enough, the eventual dingy trailer-esque caravan they set up shelter in is also double-booked, by none other than Father Noel Furlong, played by television's beloved Graham Norton. While his appearances in Father Ted can verge on the overbearing at times, his playful suggestions that his fellow priests were "off to get some cocaine", and his wild accusations of stumbling in "half past the eleven" are priceless. I don't know how that character wasn't killed off by Ted beating him over the head with something, but his addition to this episode is a great antidote to Ted's not so jolly holiday. One particular sketch that gets Ted all riled up, and us at home clutching our sides in laughter, is his attempt to teach Dougal the difference between the small toy cows on the table, and the ones far away in the surrounding fields - "Small.... far awayyyy." The suggestion that Dougal is meant to be 25 years old is one of the many ludicrous quirks that makes the show what it is.
