Father Ted: 12 Funniest Episodes

9. Rock A Hula Ted

Straight away here we see a send-up of Sinead O'Connor, as the feminist Niamh Connolly, sporting a rather challenging view to Father Ted's male-centric view of the world. As he dismisses the views of housekeeper Mrs Doyle, we see the singer on some kind of talk show performing lyrics such as €“
"Big men in frocks, telling us what to do. They can't get pregnant like I do."
Naturally, Connolly ends up on the island, and in a fantastical set of circumstances, manages to talk Dougal into giving her the house for free. We can't ignore the cringe-tastic conversation they have, where Dougal makes the kind offer of making a cup of tea while she takes off her bra to get comfortable. The boy isn't the most experienced with talking to women, but we wouldn't have it any other way. Meanwhile, at the not-at-all-sexist Lovely Girls competition, where Ted is asked to judge so as to avoid any sleazy shenanigans, we are treated to the sight of a breathless Ted recovering from a punch to the stomach, as he introduces the girls in a way that a creepy stalker would talk down the phone to you €“
"Look at them there. Walking around."
While he recovers his physical composure, how he thought proclaiming the fact that "doesn't Mary have a lovely bottom!" was appropriate is beyond me. A perfect example of the twisted humour of this show is that he managed to smooth it over by clarifying that he thinks all their posteriors are equally pleasing to the eye. When you add Jack's uncanny impersonation of Bob Geldof into the mix, you have a classic episode.
