7. The Passion Of St Tibulus
A blue movie on Craggy Island? Just the sort of thing Ted and his parochial house were expected to make a stand against. The only problem was the fact that Jack seemed to quite enjoy it, not the mention the fact that the priests' protest actually drummed up more interest - it brought a new meaning to the phrase "no publicity is bad publicity." The episode gets off to a rip-roaring start with the immortal "Those Protestants up to no good as usual." I've never looked at Cluedo the same way again. Father Hernandez also rivals Father Sensini in the most exoticly-named priest stakes. The priests are supposed to be making a loud protest against the film, which in the end they comfortably sit through. Also, "down with this sort of thing," and "careful now" are hardly the most sharp of criticisms from men of the cloth who have been threatened by Bishop Brennan. It all ends up with the three Craggy Island priests being threatened with an even worse parish than their current one, as if that was possible. Fortunately, the trio have stumbled upon a tape of the bishop frolicking at the beach with his secret son. What's that you say a bishop with a son? Perfect blackmail material I'd say. It's a perfect example of the twisted world of Catholicism this show lives in.
