Fear The Walking Dead: Interview With Mercedes Mason
WC: So looking ahead to Season 2, what are your predictions for the future of the show?
MM: I haven't been told anything yet, but we have this luxury boat, and from what we, as fans, know so far about the walkers, they can't be in water. That means, in theory, the characters are fairly safe from the walkers unless we find out they dont even need oxygen and can just walk under the ocean and come up, I don't know. I'm imagining at some point the group is going to run out of supplies and they're going to need to go ashore. Also, we've seen the world of The Walking Dead and humans are far more to fear than walkers. Walkers are very singularly focused, they want sustenance and if you get them in the brain, that's that. With humans, you don't quite know what they want and that's what makes them so frightening. If I saw somebody on the luxury boat, I'd want that for myself so I could imagine some sort of roving pirates trying to take over. Or maybe even just cabin fever. They're strangers being forced to live together. I have no real idea, these are all just very loose predictions.
WC: What are your hopes for Ofelia?
MM: I definitely think Ofelia needs to mourn the loss of her mother, and needs to reconnect with her father. Thats what I'm hoping, but who knows, sometimes when you're in a dire situation you're just forced to move on real quick. I think she'll really have to become stronger and get her bearings or she's not going to survive, especially in a world where she's not sure who to trust. She has no idea that Liza was the one who cattle coddled her mother, that might come up. She has no idea Madison was aware of certain things, and I imagine a lot of that will come out and clash with one another. But who knows?
WC: One final note... That big cliffhanger in The Walking Dead is causing a stir right now. Do you think we're going to see a comeback for a certain character anytime soon?
MM: Oh, well online there's so much about whether or not a 'certain character' did actually perish, I don't know. I literally screamed when I saw it. I had no idea that was going to happen but it was still rather vague. I don't know whether someone fell on top of him, so maybe I'm just being hopeful but I still do think there's a slight chance that character is able to survive and get enough zombie guts on him to make it out. Or maybe that is just the end, I don't know. If it is the end I'm going to be very sad...
