Fear The Walking Dead Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

5. The Key Theme

Fear The Walking Dead
AMC

Family. Fear The Walking Dead feels like a classic dysfunctional family drama with the added catastrophe of the world coming to an end, obviously. Maddie shows tough love to Nick, but ultimately, he is her son and she'd do anything to save him... from himself. The simmering tension with Travis' links to Liza were apparent, while the Salazar parents seemed to know far more about the world than they'd told their daughter Ofelia.

Showrunner Dave Erickson told The Hollywood Reporter: "One of the big questions thematically is: what is family now? Is it blood or is it bond? We’re going to have a group of people, some of whom don’t know each other very well. It provides for this interesting balance of paranoia and anxiety." This shows the group will still be adapting to one another, and tough choices will have to be made between 'old world' families and the 'new world' group they find themselves in.
