Firefly: Ranking Episodes From Worst To Best

2. Episode 6: Our Mrs. Reynolds

Mal: "Someone ever tries to kill you, you try to kill 'em right back!"

"Our Mrs. Reynolds" is just pure fun from start to finish. With an episode that starts off with Mal in a dress and bonnet pretending to be Jayne's wife, to a party where Mal unwittingly marries a wife of his own, what's not to love?

Christina Hendricks turns in a delightful performance as Saffron, Mal's softspoken, shy, subservient wife, who turns out to be a sharp-tongued, seductive, tough-as-nails master criminal bent on stealing Serenity for salvage, in a twist that completely makes the episode.

This is what really cemented the show's execution as brilliant; "Our Mrs. Reynolds" is regarded by many as a Firefly classic, and for good reason. Saffron is the one person able to get Mal to open up, talk about his past, and ultimately be vulnerable; oh, the tragic irony that she is the one who betrays him after he, and the rest of the crew, fall for her innocent act. One of the most memorable antagonists of Firefly, Saffron sizzles off the screen in the second act of the episode, and also makes a well-deserved return in "Trash."
