Friends: 10 Most Cringeworthy Moments

5. Officer Goodbody

The success of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia was great for Danny DeVito in a lot of ways, not least amongst these acting as a televisual pallet cleanser, in that Officer Goodbody would no longer be the lasting image of his efforts in US sitcoms.

We see DeVito introduced in the self-explanatory The One Where the Stripper Cries, as a last-minute emergency addition to Phoebe's bachelorette party, which she had declared as far too tame for her liking.

Initially dismissive of the diminutive, unfit man who arrives, her nature as the most empathetic and understanding of all the Friends shines though, resulting a particularly cringeworthy striptease for the bride to be.

Fair play to DeVito for approaching his role with the gusto that he does, but a part of us does die inside watching the dad from Matilda gyrate, hip thrust, and slap his own ass.

The Officer Goodbody scenes remain divisive amongst Friends devotees. Some cite them as a rare descent into particularly lowbrow humour, whereas others argue the last hurrah for an ageing stripper is great feel-good redemption arc.
