Friends: Every Season Finale Ranked Worst To Best
9. The One With Barry And Mindy's Wedding (Season Two)
The main plot of any sitcom, finale or not, should never focus on the wedding of two secondary characters.
Although season nine's finale, The One With Barry And Mindy's Wedding, featured some exemplary acting from Rachel at the wedding in question, it didn't quite work as a finale plot. It should have been a mid-season episode at best. Rachel's dress being caught in her underwear, Barry joking that she would have left by 9:45pm, and Rachel singing Copacabana - a song she couldn't sing in high school - were dire aspects of the wedding. Friends was way better than this.
That said, the series' subplots largely worked. Chandler taking up online dating only to be paired with Janice by the episode's end, Monica and Richard breaking up, and Joey attempting to find a guy to kiss for an acting role were all great, great subplots. The breakup of Monica and Richard, for example, came at the right point in their relationship, while subsequently allowing for major developments in the former's story arc. It worked in every way. Meanwhile, Ross aggressively Joey, only for the lone Tribbiani son to admit he'd already auditioned - and failed to get - the role was a classic Joey moment.
Without the overall disappointing main plot, this would have ranked higher.
