Futurama: 6 Reasons It Should Have Stayed Cancelled

5. They Ended The Show Beautifully At The End Of The 4 Movies

futuramaWildgreenyonder Spoiler Alert for Into The Wild Green Yonder... After evading capture from Zapp Brannigan, the Planet Express Crew, plus Kif and LaBarbara, are hurtling towards a wormhole with potentially no hope of return, the crew accepts this and decides to head straight for the wormhole. In this moment everything that has happened between Fry and Leela is (again) concluded as they kiss and grasp each others hands, united and happy with what they are about to do as they have each other. This is another perfectly fitting conclusion for everything that has come before it, combined with the iconic image of the half-circle from the title card, being centred and now forming a complete circle. This seems to be an intention on the part of the entire production crew to be the end of Futurama, and that's how it should have been. Into The Wild Green Yonder has all the best elements that you could want from Futurama; epic action animated brilliantly; great writing with a pinch of allegories (although actually it's more of a handful in this case); a conclusion to Fry and Leela's relationship; and a decent musical number thrown in for good measure (thankfully not from Celine Dion). Granted, according to show Developer David X. Cohen, everyone who had worked on the show didn't hope that it would end, so they had written a conclusive yet re-openable ending, just in the off chance they were renewed. Sadly, with the benefit of hindsight, it has to be said that these wishes of more seasons shouldn't have come true.
