Futurama: The Planet Express Crew Ranked From Worst To Best
A Futurama list? Shut up and take my money!
Futurama ran for seven seasons and was consistently good for the majority of it, and that primarily came down to the fact that the characters were so well-developed.
The crew of the Planet Express delivery service are a rag-tag collection of glorified delivery boys who all helped make the science-fiction comedy an absolute blast to watch.
The scenarios and comic moments spread throughout Futurama were always overly dramatic and this meant that the cast had to match that energy, and thankfully they were perfectly suited for the job. They felt entirely at home in the outlandish presentation of the year 3000 and that was achieved through some excellent writing.
Each character was employed in a certain way that was not only designed to keep the fictional company afloat but played into an archetype that is traditionally seen in comedy shows. They all suited these positions perfectly and even added nuances to the typecasts that they were given.
It is incredibly difficult to sort the cast of Futurama as they are all such fantastic characters, but some really do stand above the rest in regards to their comedic chops, character development and placement on the show.
7. Hermes
Science fiction is a world of wonder and possibilities, but the harsh reality of existence has a lot more bureaucracy than what Star Wars and The Matrix would have you believe. Thankfully for Planet Express, they have the wonderful Hermes Conrad to carry them through as accountant for the company and a level 34 bureaucrat. He often functions in the show as the embodiment of the legal aspects of space travel.
Hermes is played very well by the actor Phil LaMarr and has had some entertaining moments throughout the series. However, his position as the paperwork man has often left him feeling relatively underdeveloped and restricted in regards to what he can do in the fantastical setting.
The show tried to rectify this by adding in a storyline about him being an Olympic Limbo champion which is easily a highlight for the character, but ultimately doesn't save him from being slightly forgettable.
He does have a strong connection with the others - with his hatred of Zoidberg being an excellent source for comedy. But ultimately he's less funny than the rest of the cast and has little going for him as a character.
