Game Of Thrones: 10 Characters Killed At The PERFECT Time
8. Robb And Catelyn Stark
Okay, this one's a bit of a cheat as they are two characters, but their tales were woven into one and came to a heart-wrenching end together.
As awful as the deaths of Robb and Catelyn are, the Red Wedding is still one of the best twists (if not the best) which George R. R. Martin ever created. Just when we thought this would be the epic tale of a vengeful wife and son, watching them go to war over two seasons to fight for justice and revenge, the wool was pulled from over our eyes yet again. Nothing is ever as it seems in Westeros and the shock factor alone gives them an entry on this list.
Robb and Catelyn were the ultimate red herrings: for the second and third seasons, all eyes were on them as the Starks who would lead to their family to victory, while the other members of their family were off on their sub-plots. It was only after the red wedding we began to realise how significant these other sub-plots were.
After their deaths, we began to see some of these plot lines come together, along with a harsh reminder of how easy betrayal comes to some in Westeros.
