Game Of Thrones: 10 Characters Killed At The PERFECT Time
5. Tommen Baratheon
The younger brother of the villainous Joffrey, Tommen comes into the fray more when he is unexpectedly crowned king following the death of his sibling.
With a kinder nature than his brother, Tommen is easily exploited by numerous parties through his three-season reign. Ironically, the one person who tries to shield him from all of it is Cersei, whose love for her children throughout the show's run was her only redeeming quality.
While not a major player in the grand scheme of things, Tommen was the last flicker of goodness in his mother. So when he threw himself out of the window of the Red Keep in the outstanding The Winds Of Winter, the last link to innocence in Cersei was broken.
It was an expertly symbolic way for him to go - his death was effectively the cost Cersei had to pay for her plot to murder the High Sparrow and the Tyrells.
As such, his death signifies a major change in her character, driving her to move forward as queen with a renewed sense of ruthlessness and hate towards her enemies in the final two seasons, with no sense of love or honour holding her back.
