Game Of Thrones: 10 Moments That Prove Stannis Was The Mannis
9. Knighting Davos
As mentioned, Davos Seaworth was responsible for smuggling in the onions that led to Stannis and his men surviving the Siege of Storms End. As a reward, he was knighted by Stannis and given a castle and lands. Because of his background as a thief and smuggler, many would have simply turned Davos away after the war, rather than raising him up to be a knight. Stannis did punish him for his past, by cutting off the tips of his fingers. However, the usual punishment is having full fingers, or the whole hand removed, while Stannis asked Davos which hand he used and cut the fingertips off the lesser one. Davos agreed that this was a fair and just punishment, especially when coupled with his new prestige, and he has remained fiercely loyal to Stannis ever since, even becoming his hand (you sense the irony was lost on them) when he declared himself King.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
