Game Of Thrones: 10 Most Believable Fan Theories
9. Syrio Forel Is Still Alive
We all remember (and miss) Arya's 'dance instructor' from way back in season 1, Syrio Forel. When confronted by Meryn Trant and Lannister guards, he allows Arya to escape by facing up to them with nothing more than a wooden sword. Because of this predicament, we're left to assume he has been killed. Crucially though, we never actually see it happen. So could he still be alive?
It may just be wishful thinking, but it's certainly plausible that he survived the encounter. After all, this is the First Sword of Braavos we're talking about. If he were to escape, then it's something Trant may well lie about, in order to protect his own reputation and save himself from any punishment. Cersei still refers to Syrio as Arya's dance master, despite his boast to Trant about being First Sword, so it seems he hasn't told the Queen the whole truth. Surely he'd only lie if he had something to hide.
So, what became of him after he made his getaway? Well, it's not too long later that Arya comes across another mysterious man from across the Narrow Sea, Jaqen H'ghar. He takes an immediate interest in her, and we later discover that he is one of the Faceless Men of Braavos. Quite how a deadly assassin who can change his appearance comes to be in the black cells is a mystery, unless they wanted to be there. And one explanation is that's because Syrio is Jaqen.
There are some timeline issues that make this less likely, but it's fun to imagine two of the characters closest to Arya being one and the same. At the very least, it's highly plausible Syrio is still out there, and hopefully we will see him again.
