Of all the battles, all the deaths, and all the horrors seen throughout Game of Thrones, the Red Wedding is one of the most heinous slaughters. Not only did it destroy the entire northern army, it devastated audiences everywhere.
Though many lost their lives, the biggest atrocity wasn't the murder of the King in the North, the slitting of Catelyn's throat, or even the sewing of Grey Wind's head onto Robb Stark's body. The worst, and most brutal death in the entire show is that of Talisa Stark.
The pregnant Queen in the North, seen by the Freys as the reason behind Robb's betrayal, was ambushed and stabbed numerous times in the belly, killing both mother and unborn child instantly. This, understandably, disturbed many viewers, but was there really any need for it?
In the books, not only was Robb's wife not pregnant, she was not even present at the Red Wedding. This was included in the show seemingly as a means of pure shock value. Clearly, this worked, but did it work too much to the point of crossing a line?
