Game Of Thrones: 10 Most Memorable Moments From Season 8
Whether you love it or hate it, you certainly won't forget it.
Despite delivering an ending that’ll have audience’s locked in an eternal debate, Game of Thrones is the biggest fantasy series to ever air on television and it has finally come to a close.
The mixed reception is probably down to the fact that, it didn’t deliver on quite a few different events that fans were clamouring to see, but honestly, Game of Thrones has rarely given us exactly what we wanted. If that were the case, Robb Stark would be raising little Eddard and Sean Bean would still have his head.
People wanted some moments that were as satisfying as watching Ramsay being torn apart by his dogs. Instead, we got Jaime running back to Cersei, and a surprisingly short war against the White Walkers. However, just because audiences weren’t given exactly what they wanted, it doesn’t mean that the final season doesn’t have a lot of merit.
The moments that went against expectation (whilst still delivering a fitting end) were, for the most part, the most memorable.
10. The Ending Sequence
The Starks have suffered most throughout the series as a family, living through tremendous losses, trauma and hardship. There’s an immense satisfaction in watching them essentially 'win' the Game of Thrones, which makes the ending sequence a memorable one.
The endings show the fate of Arya, Sansa and Jon. Sansa is crowned the Queen in the North and Arya is setting off to explore what’s west of Westeros. In theory, Jon’s ending is very bleak, as being sentenced to a lifetime serving the Night’s Watch isn't exactly a walk in the park. However, there aren’t anymore ‘Grumpkin’s and Snark’s’ to keep out, so Jon ventures beyond the wall with Tormund and the Wildlings for a lifetime of exploring instead.
This sequence concludes the journeys of the show’s three biggest characters. Arya is no longer driven by revenge. Sansa has become a queen without being married to a sadist, and will be a good ruler in her own right. Jon finally has a sense of belonging and freedom by roaming with his Wildling family.
These endings are fitting for each of the characters, not to mention that it is the final sequence of the biggest fantasy series to air on television and we’ll always remember it as such.
