Game Of Thrones: 10 Outrageous Book Moments That Won't Be Used

1. Lady Stoneheart

The one moment book readers have long been waiting for. It was supposed to arrive at the end of season 4, and there was huge anticipation for it in the finale, yet the moment never came. Ok, we though, they're just saving it for next year when it'll involve Brienne, more of a main character, that makes sense. Once again, nope. Lady Stoneheart is the reanimated corpse of Catelyn Stark, fished from the river by Arya as Nymeria, and brought back to life by Beric Dondarrion. She is physically altered, with her flesh now soft and the colour of curdled milk, while half her hair is gone and what remains is white and brittle. Her face is covered in scratch marks, and the slit on her throat is still open, meaning she has to cover it in order to speak. She's also changed as a person, now far less forgiving, and on the hunt for any man associated with the Freys, Boltons, or Lannisters, who she'll hang when she finds them. I can still remember my shocked reaction when reading her first appearance in the books, and I wasn't much calmer second time around. It's not yet clear how much of a role she'll play in the story, and it's understandable the showrunners can't bring Michelle Fairley back for such a small part, but it does mean that by this stage it appears extremely unlikely one of the most shocking twists won't happen on-screen.
