Game Of Thrones: 10 Questions We're Asking After 'The House Of Black And White'

7. What Is Shireen Really Doing At The Wall?

Thrones is great at unexpectedly throwing up pairs of characters that don't match, yet compliment each other beautifully well, and there's another potential friendship of that ilk growing. Stannis Baratheon's daughter Shireen is a high-born little girl, intelligent by nature, with a scaled face due to disease. She was seen helping the uneducated yet street-wise and well-meaning wildling, Gilly, to read. However, the mysterious lady in red, Melisandre, is prowling around Castle Black, with a particular interest in Jon Snow, and it was by her orders that Shireen was required to travel north. Why is the little girl so important? What role has she got to play? More than just teaching others how to read, surely.
