Game Of Thrones: 10 Questions We're Asking After 'The Lion And The Rose'

10. Will There Be Another Boy King?

€˜The Lion and the Rose€™ ended rather abruptly, which means that the Iron Throne is currently more or less vacant. That bodes ill for Westeros, which is still recovering from the devastation of the War of the Five Kings, since the line of succession is by no means secure. Technically, Joffrey€™s heir is Tommen, his younger brother. Tommen is rarely glimpsed on the TV series, to the extent that he€™s been recast this season and you may not have noticed, and he plays only a marginally larger role in the books. All you need to know is that he€™s another product of Lannister incest and twelve years old, which means that Westeros will have another minor on the throne. He€™s also shown signs of actual kindness, most notably childishly wishing that Robb Stark be spared, but that€™ll probably be systematically eradicated by his grandfather Tywin. As we discovered in season one (and, truth be told, in history), legitimacy is only a minor concern for those who can scheme, buy or fight their way to a crown. Tommen may nominally be the king, but his reign may not withstand another war or rebellion, and a number of contenders survived Joffrey€™s attempts to slaughter them. Could this be the time for them to make a move?
