1. Her Family

While Daenerys is clearly proud of her Targaryen ancestry and has a huge amount of pride in her own banner and authority, she'll want you to forget completely about almost every Targaryen that came before her, remembering only their surnames. There were a scattered selection of decent kings, but for every genuine ruler, there were a swathes of pyromaniacs, megalomaniacs, sociopaths, tyrants and downright morons. Maegor the Cruel built his namesake Holdfast within King's Landing, and invited all of the builders to a celebratory feast where he slaughtered them all so nobody knew the inside layout. Aegon IV traded a dragon egg in order to sleep with a Lord's three daughters, then legitimised his NINE illegitimate children on his deathbed, sparking a world-destroying war for power. The Mad King hid wildfire all across King's Landing, opting to nuke the whole city (and everyone in it) rather than letting power swap hands. The list of cruel Targs goes on and on. Daenerys certainly isn't the worst, and there is time for her to turn things around and become a genuine leader, but he sketchy family history offers plenty of weight to the problems she's got, and the incidents she wishes everyone would just forget...
