Game Of Thrones: 10 Worst Changes From The Books

5. The Absence Of Lady Stoneheart

After the Stark cause died in a storm of Frey knives and crossbow bolts, book fans were eagerly awaiting the arrival of Lady Stoneheart. But with each new season it became ever more likely that Stoneheart would not make an appearance.

For those who have not read the books, Lady Stoneheart is the reanimated corpse of Catelyn Stark.

After the Red Wedding, her body is thrown into the river and after several days she's found by the Brotherhood Without Banners, who resurrect her. But due to her being dead for so long, little is left of the women she was, only a burning hatred for her enemies. She eventually becomes the leader of the Brotherhood and essentially turns them into a terrorist organisation.

She spends her time hanging people left right and centre, including Brienne and Podrick Payne. They're spared at the last minute, however, when Brienne agrees to lure Jaime Lannister into a trap. This would have been a brilliant moment in the show.

Stoneheart also foreshadows what will happen to Jon. Martin has expressed that Stoneheart was a plot device to indicate what can happen when people are brought back after being dead for too long. Whatever happens with Jon, when he returns he won't be the same guy we saw in the show.
