Game of Thrones is, in so many ways, the biggest show on TV, and the sheer amount of work that goes into making a season is astonishing. There are far too many people to highlight in terms of the behind-the-scenes work, but Season 7 did include a few real standouts.

Ramin Djawadi has been one of the show's hidden strengths since the very beginning, and he did some superlative work yet again this year. His score can, by turns, add drama, suspense, pace, weight, or romance, perfectly meshing with what we see on-screen to help carry it along. This year didn't give us anything quite as insanely good as Light of the Seven, but with so many characters meeting it was great to see how he utilised old scores in different ways, and guided us through the story without even realising it.

Michele Clapton is the other crew member who had a ridiculously good year. Game of Thrones' costume designer (who was missing from Season 6), she was on-point more than ever before this season, from the black outfit of Cersei to that stunning white winter wear of Daenerys when she goes beyond the Wall. Again, there were clues and symbolism within the costumes, such as Arya and Cersei both invoking memories of their fathers, and by the end it seemed almost everyone had taken the black.

The series was once again beautifully shot, thanks to Robert MacLachlan and co, and Deborah Riley's production design was again incredible, especially in reintroducing us to Dragonstone. The editing team didn't have quite as great a year, with the season at times feeling a bit like The Force Awakens in the way it rollicked from one beat to the next, but that's forgivable when they also gave us perhaps the most disgustingly brilliant cut in TV history.
