Game Of Thrones: 18 Most Outrageous Moments So Far

6. The Battle Of Hardhome

Game Of Thrones OMG
HBO

Game of Thrones has a reputation for really delivering in its battle sequences, most notably both Blackwater and Watchers on the Wall delivering spectacle no other TV show can match. Generally it’s been saved for episode 9 - aka The One Where The Big Stuff Happens - but it came earlier this year, and was better than ever.

As opposed to those mentioned above, this took up the second-half of the episode rather than the whole thing (no bad thing, given the quality of the preceding scenes), and was superbly executed. Jon Snow and his Night’s Watch brothers arrive at Hardhome to take the wildlings back to Castle Black, but are soon attacked by a huge number of wights.

That’s nothing compared to what comes next, as the White Walkers arrive on the scene, giving us an epic showdown that really delivers on the bigger stuff - there’s an insane amount of extras used - but also a more individual level with Jon’s triumphant victory, and the death of new character Karsi. The final moments, with the Night’s King staring down Jon and raising the newly-deceased, were chilling, but the whole battle was absolutely incredible to watch, often making you forget this is a TV show,
