Blackwater was a break from the norm for Game of Thrones, as rather than zipping around Westeros and cutting from one character to the next, it maintains its focus on King’s Landing for the episode’s entirety.

It was also a break from the norm of television, as it delivered a sense of cinema rarely seen at this point on the small screen. The highlight of the Battle of the Blackwater was when Stannis’ fleet sailed into the bay, only to spot a lone abandoned ship.

Without an Admiral Ackbar figure they realised too late it was a trap, as a flaming arrow set the boat full of wildfire alight. It didn’t just cause the vessel to go up in flames though, but most of Stannis’ ships and the entire body of water itself, in a crazy, incredibly visual display.
