Game Of Thrones: 18 Terrible Ideas That Were Great To Watch

Screen Shot 2013 08 20 At 8 58 22 Pm In Game of Thrones, there are reasons to root for and against just about every character and cause in the series, and€”as any viewer can attest€”there are a lot of characters and causes. The trouble is that none of them are entirely right or wrong. The Starks are the "good" guys, but they technically are traitors to the crown. Tywin Lannister and Roose Bolton are the closest that we have to full-on villains, but it's hard not to be impressed by their machinations. Stannis is unforgiving and uncompromising, but he is Robert Baratheon's rightful heir. Joffrey is a bastard of an incestuous union and an unlawful ruler, but he believes himself legitimate. Jaime's evil, but also kind of good. Daenerys is mostly delusional about the state of the Seven Kingdoms, but she does have a claim to them. There are too many players for the conflict to end any time soon, and the shortsighted moves made by just about every character are not exactly hastening peace. What's great about the show is that these errors are those of the characters and not the show. We can shout at a character for doing something stupid and criticize a plan for being awful, but the mistakes are usually very clearly written to be mistakes, and they are usually fantastic to watch. Here are some of them. Note: I have read the books, but this list will be based on the show alone. No book spoilers.

Fiction buff and writer. If it's on Netflix, it's probably in my queue. I've bought DVDs for the special features and usually claim that the book is better than the movie or show (and can provide examples). I've never met a TV show that I won't marathon. Follow on Twitter @lah9891 .
