Game Of Thrones: 20 Mind-Blowing Details You Might've Missed

19. Daenerys' Wedding Shoot Could've Been Shut Down At Any Moment

Game Of Thrones Game Of Thrones is well known for its expansive shooting schedule, which can see actors flying from Northern Ireland, Iceland, Croatia, Morocco and Malta at a moment's notice. As this article will make plain numerous times, it's a gruelling shoot, and part of the reason why it takes so long for the next season to bit our screens. Yet as is standard with filming, there are all sorts of problems which come with the environment. The problems with filming on an Icelandic glacier should be obvious (and more on that later), there was torrential rain whenever they attempted to film in Northern Ireland (the Brienne vs. Loras fight scene took forever and required multiple shoots in varying weather) but one of the more tricksy shoots was in Malta, because of Maltese decency laws. The scenes shot on Malta included Dany's wedding to Drogo in Pentos, which you might recognise as something of a violent sex-fest. As Jorah Mormont says, a Dothraki wedding without three deaths is considered a dull affair, and when you combine this with the animalistic rutting that goes on throughout, you might see why this mix of sex and violence would've caused a problem. The film-makers were expecting to be shut down at any moment, but to their surprise, they weren't ever bothered. Yet before you think they were lucky not to fall afoul of the Maltese censors, consider this €“ during the Pentos shoot, Malta was wracked by its worst storm for 20 years. Clearly, God doesn't like raunchy Dothraki.
