There are so many reasons to love Game of Thrones - a fact that, after the divisiveness and controversy of Season 8, it feels pertinent to remind ourselves of. Part of the reason for that division was because Thrones is many things to many people, with various aspects to grab you. It might be the performances, or the epic battles, or the conversations in dark rooms.
It's a combination of all of those and more, really, but one thing that Game of Thrones has always delivered are shocking moments. The scenes that you can't believe happened. The ones that you'll be talking about by the watercooler on Monday morning. The ones that stay with you long after the credits have rolled.
It made its reputation on these, in many respects. It's the deaths of beloved characters that helped propel this show into the mainstream and that shock factor is, for better or worse, something it's continued to use across all eight seasons and 73 episodes. It might be a death, a reveal, or just about anything else, because it's all possible in this show, but these are the moments that left fans completely and utterly floored.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
