15. The Wall Falls

In a sense, this always had to happen. You don’t introduce a 700ft tall, 300mile wide wall made of ice, and a villain whose goal involving getting past it, if you’re not going to bring it down.

Still, you can hold that thought in your mind for years, and still be stunned when it actually happens. The moment itself comes right at the end of Season 7, with the Night King arriving on the back of his new undead dragon, Viserion, and using his *blue* flame to burn and break the Wall down. Before then, the White Walkers has always been something of a background threat. The Wall was in the way, so Westeros was safe. That was no longer the case. The Great War was on.
