Game Of Thrones: 5 Epic Shows To Binge-Watch Over Hiatus
2. The Tudors
If you’re particularly fascinated by the political scheming and melodrama of King’s Landing, loved the accusations of incest to overthrow a royal, or are just missing a whole lot of Natalie Dormer on your screen, The Tudors could have you on your couch for days.
Showtime’s The Tudors is a retelling of the lives of King Henry VIII and his wives. Managing to cover six wives – including two Annes and two Catherines – in only four seasons, The Tudors sees King Henry nearly rip his kingdom apart in his desire to procure a male heir for himself.
Although the first few episodes prove him not averse to acknowledging a bastard boy as his son, the need for a legitimate male heir sees him tear through multiple marriages within only a few in-show years. With the politics of the 16th century growing all the more complicated following his split from the Catholic church in order to procure his first divorce and Henry unwilling to trust many of his advisors, this particular Tudor king does not have an easy reign.
More of a soap opera in period dress with familiar names than a retelling of history, The Tudors nevertheless paints a portrait of political intrigue well-worth a marathon. At the very least, Natalie Dormer as the ill-fated Anne Boleyn has a familiar face.
