Game Of Thrones: 5 Theories I Could Get Behind
4. Jon Snow-Mystery Parents
Ok, ok, while the TV series haven't gone into much depth about Jon's possible mother and father other than Ned and this mysterious figure, ideas can be derived from the books. While on the Kingsroad, journeying to King's Landing, Ned reveals the name of Jon's supposed mother to the audience. While Robert failed to remember her name, Ned reminds him of the woman - Wylla. But, Ned refuses to go any further into the topic. While many would take this as Ned refusing to talk about shaming his honour, others, including me, had another idea. What if he's hiding something? Now, Robert began his Rebellion for two main reasons. One being the capture of his love, Ned's sister, Lyanna Stark by Rhaegar Targaryen. The other was the execution of Brandon and Rickon Stark by the Mad King. The reason for this was Brandon riding to King's Landing so Rhaegar could answer for his crimes of kidnapping. The Mad King imprisoned his entourage and demanded their fathers come to answer for them. Rickon rode south and the Mad King killed them both. So the Mad King then demanded the heads of Ned Stark and Robert Baratheon, so then they rose up with Jon Arryn against the crown. I apologise for rambling on but it is very relevant. Anyway, so they are victorious on the Trident and take King's Landing but Ned refuses to stay in King's Landing after Robert allowed the brutal murder of the King's wife and children by Tywin Lannister's men. Ned goes to free the siege of Storm's End and shortly after, to venture to the Tower of Joy, where Lyanna is believed to be kept. Three members of the Kingsguard were present and Ned and his entourage fought them, with only Ned himself and Howland Reed surviving. Lyanna is found in a pool of blood and she asks Ned to fulfil an unknown promise. Now, I believe this is where Jon Snow could come in. He could be the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna, as Rhaegar could've impregnated Lyanna to save his line and the dynasty. Jon is also said to have more Stark features, whereas the other Stark children (except Arya) show more Tully features. Another subtle hint is when Ned is thinking about Robert's bastards, his thoughts drift to Jon (logical) but also to Lyanna and, in turn, Rhaegar, possibly revealing an allusive link between them. This also would make Jon the heir to the Iron Throne (To all those on A Dance With Dragons - no Spoilers please! I know what you're thinking). However, with Jon in the Night's Watch, this is a moot point. With Eddard now (supposedly) dead, Howland Reed is the only person alive to know Lyanna's promise. Now, for some, that could be a lot of names to remember and may have trouble understanding but don't worry, if it's true, all shall be revealed in the TV series! I would like to believe that his father is Rhaegar but with Martin's unpredictability, I am not dedicated.
