The entire Battle of Hardhome was on another level entirely. Its often been said that Game of Thrones is cinema on the small screen, and this was the best example of that the show has given. Its not so much a TV episode as it is a war epic. While the wights launched the first wave of the attack, the bigger worry was the White Walkers standing atop the mountains, looking down upon the wildlings and Nights Watch. Weve seen them before, of course, but here was perhaps the best look at them, and a true indication of their power. As the last of the Nights Watch make their escape, Jon looks back in horror as the leader of the Others, the Nights King, stares back at him and slowly raises his arms. As he does so, he also raises all of the recently dead, such as the wildling Karsi. Jon said earlier in the episode that he never forgets the dead people hes lost. Thats going to become more literal than he ever imagined. It was an extremely impressive display of the White Walkers power, and one that at last conveys just how huge the threat facing everyone is Westeros really is.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
