1. Daenerys' Arc
The arc of Daenerys is different in the original plot theres no mention of her noble obsession of cleansing Slavers Bay (Mereen, Yunkai and Astapor) of its slave trade. Notably, she still marries Khal Drogo, but unlike in the final books this turns out to be a loveless marriage, and she plots revenge against Drogo further to him murdering her brother Viserys. That means Daenerys is a lot more focused in this earlier version, and ultimately arrives in Westeros sooner, presumably to pit her dragons against the true antagonists of GRRMs original plot outline: The Others (or White Walkers as theyre more commonly known). The Others - and the Wights that they raise from the dead - are considered by GRRM to be the central enemy in the series, though they are joined by a mysterious other set of creatures he refers to as Neverborn. The Neverborn have not yet been explicitly portrayed in the series, though theres a chance they could be Crastors sons, who (in the series, not yet in the books) are harvested at birth to be transformed into some form of White Walker. The original plan, and the product into which it ultimately morphed, are both generational sagas. They tell the story of GRRMs pentarch of protagonists, though the character arcs of many players in the game of thrones have drastically changed. Its a fascinating insight into mind of a creative genius, evidence of him revisiting key plot points in a manner not dissimilar to that employed by Tolkien, who painstakingly revised the characters and events of Middle-Earth before settling on the final published version.
